It is possible that mulch that was given away in Horse Cave may have contained asbestos, it was report yesterday. A tobacco warehouse that was torn down and ground up for mulch may have contained the asbestos. Kentucky has a law that all buildings must have the asbestos survey done, so how could this have happened?

The demolition of the building slipped under the scope of the Kentucky Division of Air Quality and no asbestos testing was done. It is said that the health risk for those that have taken some of the mulch is low, but still, you can cause the asbestos fibers to become airborne if the mulch does indeed have the asbestos ground up with it.

Kentucky Division of Air Quality has issued a statement telling those who have taken some of the mulch to call their office and have a asbestos abatement done. They feel that the asbestos threat is low, but also warn to keep children away. They say that health problems only arise from long-term asbestos exposure.

The company that did the demolition is now under investigation for not having the asbestos abatement survey done prior to tearing down the building. The company will receive a fine, but that amount is undetermined at this time.

“This story is why asbestos attorneys need to be contacted immediately. If you have been exposed to asbestos or there is a chance you have been exposed, you need to talk with a asbestos lawyer and ask for all the asbestos legal advice you will need.”
