Utica New York County Building Inspecting For Asbestos

Filed Under Asbestos News, General Info

If you find out that your home or building has asbestos inside, you should have it removed. In some buildings, asbestos abatements are done in only a few areas and the rest of the building is left untouched. This recently happened to an office building in Utica, New York. The asbestos removal was done on the eighth floor and the first floor, but the other eight floors were left untouched. Now that building is closed, so the asbestos testing can be done.

The first thing that comes to mind is why would the building owner only clear a couple of floors and risk the asbestos exposure by those on the other floors. This sounds very risky and could result in more problems down the road when people that work in the building sue because they were exposed to asbestos.

Since the county owns the building, it stands to lose a lot more. They have nowhere to conduct business on a long-term basis, but they will need to do something if the tests come back with positive results, which could very well happen since there was asbestos found in the building maintenance room.

The only other concern they will have is if any employees in the building were exposed to asbestos fibers in the air. People that work in the building and the county itself will need some asbestos legal advice before long. Asbestos attorneys will be able to answer any questions employees have about their rights if they were exposed.
