Asbestos Abatement Being Done On Air Force Base In Illinois
Asbestos removal will be done on the Air Force base in Rantoul Illinois to remove the mile long piping that is covered with asbestos. The asbestos abatement project will cost about $150,000. The report stated that the pipe insulation must be removed to ensure the health of the residents that live nearby the base. The project was delayed for years because neither the military nor the town government could agree on who was responsible for the cost of the asbestos removal.
The Air Force base is no longer used and some of the area has already been turned into a golf course and hotel as well as the museum of Aerospace. Although the asbestos is a problem, there is another problem on the base. The Heritage Lake was once used as a dumping site for hazardous waste. Some of the buildings on the base also still contain asbestos.
While doing the asbestos removal, air quality tests will also be done to check the air and soil quality around the base. If the soil around the pipes is found to be dangerous to the health of people, it will be replaced with new soil as well.
Residents have always been concerned about the base and asbestos exposure since the base closed in the 1990’s. Since asbestos fibers can cause mesothelioma cancer in some people, it is only right to say that the people close by the base should be concerned about asbestos exposure. It is possible that asbestos legal advice is needed. Asbestos attorneys can advice the people what to do next if they have health concerns or symptoms.
